Attlee collection

The Attlee collection comprises of books donated to the Library by former Prime Minister Clement Attlee. 

Many of these works relate to the independence of India and Pakistan and demonstrate the extent of Attlee’s involvement with this historic event.

How to access the collection
The majority of the collection is borrowable and can be found in the Morrell Library. A small collection of books are in the Rare Books Collection and may be consulted at the Borthwick Institute for Archives. The collection can be searched in YorSearch.

About the collection

Acquisition

Attlee donated works to the newly founded University of York in the early 1960s.
