The Poetry Society Collection consists of around 11,000 volumes of both literary and critical works, especially poetry, published between 1709-2006. In particular there is an emphasis on English writing of the 19th and early 20th centuries.
The Poetry Society Library was handed to the University, as a long term loan, in 1986. This was marked with a reception in Langwith College Senior Common Room on 29 October 1986. The arrangement originated from the particular interest of a staff member in the Department of English in twentieth century poetry, at a time when the Poetry Society was looking to establish a library outside of London.
Most of the items in the collection can be borrowed and are located in the Morrell building. A small quantity of books are in the Rare Books Collection and may be consulted at the Borthwick Institute for Archives.
