We’re making some changes to our Family Study Room

News | Posted on Thursday 10 August 2023

In response to your feedback, we’re updating the terms and conditions for our Family Study Room. This includes a new option to bring a nominated guest with you when you visit.

A wide view of the family study room. On the right, there is a children's area with bookshelves, books, toys, colourful beanbags and other children's furniture. On the left, there are several desks and some desktop computers for study.

The Library opened our Family Study Room in October 2022 to support students with children to study and to make the most of our services. Since then we have been reviewing your feedback about how you use the room and we have updated our terms and conditions. You can read more about the Family Study Room on our webpage, which includes the latest version of our terms and conditions.

One of the main changes we’re making is to allow registered users of the Family Study Room to bring a nominated guest with you when you and your child visit. We know from your feedback that you would really value the option of bringing a partner or friend along as extra support while you study. We need to balance this new policy with our overall safeguarding responsibilities for the Family Study Room. Please therefore note the following conditions:

  • You may nominate a single, permanent guest, whose details we will keep on file.
  • Your guest can be a fellow student, staff member of the University or someone who is not part of the University.
  • Your guest must attend an induction session before they can accompany you on your visits to the Family Study Room.
  • Your guest may only access the Family Study Room whilst you are present and you are responsible for them during your visit.

Thank you for your positive feedback about the Family Study Room, which we hope will become even more beneficial for you after this change. Please contact us if you have any questions about this policy or any suggestions for the Family Study Room in general.
