Webfiles

Webfiles provides a location for hosting large static files that are not suitable for the main York web servers, for example large data files.

Key features

  • Provides a large amount of storage for files that need to be shared with other people.
  • Intended for sharing data that doesn't change very often.
  • Files are accessed via a web page, which acts similarly to a file browser.
  • By default, files are accessible to the whole world. You can add access control if you only want members of the University to see them.

Access instructions

Open Webfiles

  • To request access to upload to the webfiles service, please contact IT Services.
  • If access is granted, we will provide you with a non-personal account to use for webfiles.
  • You will use a secure file transfer protocol (SFTP) client, such as WinSCP, to connect to the host webfiles.york.ac.uk and upload files.
