Stata is a general-purpose statistical software package. Stata's capabilities include:

Obtaining the software
Students
Classrooms
Stata/MP is installed on all IT Services classroom PCs.
Home use
Stata/MP is available for home use and is also available via the VDS.
Students may purchase Stata direct from Timberlake at a reduced cost, you'll need to provide proof of your student status (ie a copy of your University card). Find out more: Stata Students
University staff and students may install Stata/MP to a personal device. Access to download and activate the software is available by signing into this restricted link.
Staff
Managed PCs
To install Stata on office PCs managed by IT Services:
- From the Start Menu search for and open Software Center
- Locate the software under the Available Software tab
- Click on the Install button in the lower right
Once installed, it will appear under Start | All Programs.

- The Maths Skills Centre has online practical guides and workshops on how to get started in STATA and how to run statistical analyses.

- The Maths Skills Centre offers 30-minute one-to-one statistics appointments, either online or in-person, if you have questions about or would like guidance on how to use STATA.
