IT support for new arrivals on campus

As the new term starts, the IT Support team are here to help you with your IT queries.

IT Support will be available over both upcoming arrivals weekends:

  • Saturday 19 September and Sunday 20 September, 12 noon to 4pm
  • Saturday 26 September and Sunday 27 September, 12 noon to 6pm

You can contact us for support over these dates by calling 01904 32 3838 (recommended) or emailing itsupport@york.ac.uk, and we will assist you remotely.

The IT Support team will also be available as usual for phone and email support Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. In the event that we are unable to resolve your query remotely we will be offering in-person appointments (available Monday to Friday, between 9am and 5pm).

Out of hours

IT emergencies: all critical IT Services are monitored out of hours and we will be alerted to any issues (eg major network failure). Please follow @UoYITServices on Twitter for updates.

Where can I find online IT advice?

Our website has lots of useful help and information. If you are new to the University, start by reading our information for new arrivals.

How do I connect to the University wifi?

Follow the wifi setup instructions. If you have any problems also try our troubleshooting information.

How can I connect my games console, smart speaker or smart TV to the network?

You can connect your games console, smart speaker or smart TV to the network in your study bedroom by registering your device.

Can I install Microsoft Office for free?

You can install MS Office 365 free of charge and use MS Office on up to five different devices. The subscription remains valid as long as you are a student at the University.

Can I install any other software or buy IT equipment at a discounted rate?

Yes, as a student you can download some softwares at a discounted rate or for free

When buying computer equipment for personal use you may also be eligible for discounts on cheaper IT equipment from our suppliers

Do you provide any resources for improving IT skills?

The Skills Guides provide online interactive tutorials and guidance on using a range of applications. You can also book a place on our face-to-face training to develop your IT skills.
