Enterprise Architecture

Enterprise Architecture (EA) helps the University make the best use of its technology, data and processes.

If you're planning a new system, service or major IT change, you need to ensure it's sustainable, secure, and aligned with University strategy. We're here to help you make confident decisions and get your plans approved quickly and correctly.

Working with Enterprise Architecture (EA) means taking a joined-up view of technology, data and processes. It helps you avoid duplication, reduce complexity and ensure your solution fits effectively into the University's digital environment.

Three steps to getting your plans approved

Our Enterprise Architecture team provides expertise in technology, applications, data and business processes. We work with academic departments, professional services and project teams to make sure projects are well planned, connected to existing systems and aligned with security and sustainability standards.

Engage with us early. We’ll help you shape your idea, check its feasibility and guide you through the approval process.

Engage with the Enterprise Architecture team as soon as you start exploring an idea. We’ll help you shape it, check its feasibility and spot issues early.
Use our Enterprise Architecture principles to inform your design decisions and strengthen your proposal.
Once we agree your proposal is ready, submit it to the Technical Design Authority (TDA) for review and final sign-off.

Understanding the University’s digital landscape

To plan technology improvements and manage complexity, the Enterprise Architecture team uses modelling to map how systems, data and processes connect across the University.

We use a range of models, from systems and data maps to capability diagrams, to see how technology supports University activities and plan future improvements.

Our models help us:

  • see how systems and services interact
  • identify duplication or gaps in technology
  • plan future changes and improvements.

We use specialised tools, including Ardoq, to capture this information in one place and create visualisations that support strategic decisions.
