Got a new device?
If you got a new computer, tablet, mobile phone or games console over the Christmas break, make sure you know how to set it up and use it with our services.
Connect on campus
First things first, read through our guidance on how to connect your new device to either the wired or wireless network.
If you've got a new games console, you need to register it for the mydevices network (available both over wifi and through the wired network) to connect it to the internet in your study bedroom:
Specific smart devices can also connect to the mydevices network, although some features may be limited. Personal printers and some smart home accessories (smart bulbs, smart plugs, etc) will not work on the University campus network.
Two-factor authentication
If you've got a new mobile phone, make sure it's set up with two-factor authentication (2FA).
Remember- don’t reset or wipe your old phone until you’re sure 2FA is working on your new one!
Printing
You can print to the University printers from computers, tablets and smartphones.
Printers are available across campus however if you do decide to bring your own, you won’t be able to connect it to the campus wifi or wired network. You’ll need to connect it directly to your computer using a USB cable (most printers include one of these in the box) and make sure the printer’s wireless functionality is switched off.
There are lots of tools, software and services available to use with your device at the University.
