Joseph Friedman was previously a Senior Director of Sotheby’s, Curator of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor’s Collection in Paris, and an art adviser to the Foreign Office, the National Trust, and the J. Rothschild Group of Companies. A partner in Historic Buildings Consultants, he has lectured and published widely on the fine and decorative arts. His database on The trade in cultural goods in late Stuart England is part of the Department’s research project, The art world in Britain 1660 to 1735.
Philip Lankester is Emeritus Curator at the Royal Armouries, having worked in the Edged Weapons Department from 1986. Along with medieval tomb sculpture, his recent research interests have concentrated on British military and civilian swords of the 18th and 19th centuries. He was elected a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London in 2000.
