Biography

BA (London), MA, PhD (Courtauld Institute, London), FSA

 

Professor Marks' primary research field is Gothic art, particularly stained glass, manuscript illumination and sculpture. His interests focus on the function of and audience for visual imagery. Recently he has curated a major exhibition entitled Gothic, held at the V&A in 2003-4.

Professor Marks is also broadening his interests in Byzantine Art to embrace Russian icon-painting of the period 1400-1700.
