Health Sciences at York ranks top 10 in 3 subject areas in Guardian University Guide 2027
The Department of Health Science has placed 5th, 8th and 9th in the Guardian University Guide 2027 for the subjects of General Nursing, Midwifery and Mental Health Nursing. The ranking recognises the quality of our courses, and the experiences and opportunities they provide to our students.
Our Head of Department, Professor Nikki Horwood, said: 'Maintaining our place as one of the very best departments in the UK for nursing and midwifery in the Guardian University Guide 2027 is a fantastic achievement. It is a direct result of the close collaboration between our passionate academic team and our regional healthcare partners. Most importantly, it is a celebration of our incredible students, who graduate as highly skilled, compassionate practitioners making a real difference to the lives of people across our communities.'
The Guardian University Guide is published annually to help students choose a university course. It ranks UK universities by undergraduate degree subjects in metrics such as student satisfaction, continuation, spend per student and graduate outcomes.
York’s overall position
In total, four subjects at York ranked in the UK top 10:
- General Nursing - 5th
- Midwifery - 8th
- Mental Health Nursing - 9th
- Medicine - 10th (Hull York Medical School)
A further five subjects ranked in the UK top 20.
- Media and film studies - 12th
- History of Art - 14th
- Criminology - 16th
- Chemistry - 17th
- Antropology and Archaeology - 20th
