Would you like to explore our teaching laboratories? See inside our industry-standard recording studios? We are happy to organise visits to the Department or individuals, families or school groups. Please contact us to arrange a mutually convenient date and time (Monday - Friday) giving us at least two weeks notice so that we make sure our staff are available to give you a tour and answer any questions you may have about our courses.
You could also book for one of our University Open Days which allow you to explore more of the campus, visit University campus accomodation, find out what it's like to be a student here, visit our department and meet some of our staff and current students.
We invite all promising UK based applicants to an interview day before making a decision on their application. In addition to the interview itself, this includes tours of the campus, student accommodation and our teaching facilities, as well as a separate programme for famillies/supporters.
York is well-connected by rail, on the East Coast main line from London to Edinburgh, just over two hours away from London (King's Cross) and around two and a half hours from Edinburgh. An online rail timetable is available. There is also a direct service across the Pennies between York, Leeds, Manchester and Liverpool.
The University is two miles from the railway station. You can get a bus from the station - the number 44 or the number 66. They both run approximately every 10 minutes. The journey will take around 20 minutes, depending on traffic.
The easiest route to the University is to take the outer ring road (A64 on the south and east sides of the city, A1237 around the north and west) to the junction with the Hull/Bridlington roads (A1079/A166). Turn off at the exit marked University and follow the signs past Grimston Bar and down Field Lane to University Road. This route avoids the City centre and known traffic blackspots.
Please note that the University operates a pay-and-display system in the visitor's car parks. The car parks closest to the department are 'Campus South' and 'Campus West'. For those visiting us to attend an interview day between November and March, parking can be limited at the University and we encourage you to use the train and bus wherever possible. Alternatively, check the University's Open Day information in case any special Park & Ride arrangements are in place for your particular visit day.
Leeds-Bradford Airport has regular services to many UK and European destinations. It is 45 minutes from the University by Taxi. The University has a preferred taxi company: Streamline Taxis, Tel: +44 (0)1904 656565.
There is a regular train service from Manchester Airport to York station.
