Sophie Reid

Biography

I am a PhD Student at the University of York based in the Department of Chemistry and the Wolfston Atmospheric Chemistry Laboratory (WACL), where my research focuses on investigating structural effects on the photolysis rates of carbonyls. Prior to my PhD I completed my MSc at the University of York where I investigated aldehyde quantum yields, and my undergraduate degree at the University of Leeds, where my final year project looked at the Kinetics of the reactions of Criegee intermediates with water dimers.

Project outline

Investigating the absorption cross section and quantum yields of various atmospherically relevant carbonyls in order to better understand how the wide structural diversity of carbonyls impacts their photolysis rate in the atmosphere.
