From outdated, increasingly expensive to operate and no longer fit for purpose legacy solutions, the Space Systems Improvement Project (SSIP) brought together academic timetabling and examination scheduling into a single, easy-to-use system.

The new software is underpinned by the development of consistent and fair policies and processes for managing space. As well as being in line with the IT strategy, the new software allows for innovation which benefits students, staff and visitors.

The Semestry Timetabling system went live in 2021/22, and was used, alongside the new SITS (student data management system) and The People Database integrations, to build and publish the Autumn 2021/22 timetable. The Timetabling Team used TermTime to prepare the Spring 2022 timetable.

The project has enabled the University to become more efficient at managing and using the space around us, making our activities more sustainable. Ultimately the project has increased the availability of rooms and areas, and enabled a true audit of all of our space to ensure we make the best use of it.
