A selection of completed projects is shown below illustrating the levels of investment the University of York has made over the last decade. The past, present and future developments have remained true to our original master plan principles and will continue to do so.

Retail development 

  • Opened in early 2018 
  • The new development brings a medical centre and shops to Campus East

Wolfson Atmospheric Chemistry Laboratories (WACL) extension

  • Extension to the WACL building, immediately east of the YPI building
  • Accommodating new laboratories and open-plan office space

Piazza Building

  • Opened in January 2018
  • Teaching rooms, catering and kitchen areas and domestic and social spaces for Campus East

Spring Lane Building

  • Completed in September 2016
  • A new cross-departmental teaching and learning centre, featuring a 350-seat lecture theatre, seminar rooms, study and informal meeting areas.
 

Biology Phase 2

  • Opened in September 2016
  • Three-storey teaching and lab facility
  • £5m HEFCE STEM award

Athletics track pavilion and stand

  • Completed in April 2016
  • A pavilion and spectator stand for the new athletics track

 

York Plasma Institute extension
  • Extension to the Genesis 1 and 2 building
  • Home of the EPSRC Fusion Centre for Doctoral Training

Environment Building

  • Completed December 2015
  • The building houses the Department of Environment and Geography, the Stockholm Environmental Institute York, the York Environmental Sustainability Institute, and the BioArCh research group

  • Completed in summer 2015
  • New substations to increase capacity and maintainability
Athletics Track
  • Completed June 2015
  • A new county-standard athletics facility

  • The new Langwith College development provides self-catered accommodation for 645 students.

Dorothy Hogkin building in Chemistry

  • July 2012
  • The second phase has doubled the size of the Dorothy Hodgkin Research building, completing our original vision.

Library expansion and refurbishment

  • March 2012
  • The £20m refurbishment of the library provides study facilities befitting a 21st century campus.

The new Library Cafe

  • February 2012
  • The Library Cafe combines catering, social and learning spaces.

YUSU development

  • Summer 2011
  • Extensive alteration has taken place to the old Students' Union buildings.

The Catalyst

  • February 2011
  • The Catalyst is designed to promote growth in the creative, IT, digital and media sectors

Ron Cooke Hub

  • November 2010
  • The Ron Cooke Hub is located on the lakeside and forms a landmark on Heslington East.

Department of Theatre, Film and Television

  • September 2010
  • A unique multi-disciplinary environment in which stage and screen are explored from various perspectives.

The York Law School
The York Management School

  • September 2010
  • The Law and Management Schools Building places two disciplines in a new, state-of-the-art building.

Church Lane

  • August 2010
  • A new road links Field Lane to Innovation Way in the Science Park.
