What Does “Community” Mean to You? Co-Creating a Community Partnership Agreement for the School of Business and Society (SBS)

The School’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee, in partnership with the No Gaps Project, warmly invites all staff and students to a collaborative workshop exploring the question: what does community mean to you at SBS?

In higher education, community isn’t just about being friendly or social — it’s about belonging: in the classroom, in group work, in student societies, in the everyday moments of university life. It’s about recognising the value of individual identities, creating space for quiet voices, and understanding that inclusion is academic as much as it is interpersonal.

This session takes seriously the idea that the heart of our community is the classroom — where learning, dialogue and difference converge. With the help and advice of the No Gaps Student Expert Panel members, we’ll reflect together on experiences of inclusion and exclusion, share personal insights, and begin co-creating a Community Partnership Agreement: a shared vision for how we want to relate, work and learn together at SBS.

Through storytelling, visuals and open conversation, we’ll surface the real, diverse ways community is felt (or not felt) across our School.

All staff and students are welcome, especially Programme Leaders, student-facing professional services, and those supporting inclusive and online learning.

  • Expect an interactive, creative session — not a presentation.
  • Bring a photo, object or artefact that represents “community” to you.

Let’s imagine a more inclusive future — and build it together.

Please kindly note that we will be taking some photos at the event, for marketing purposes. Please let Juliet Kele know should you not wish to be included, either via email or at the event itself. Further information about the University’s processes for capturing photography and video can be found here.
