Independent research fellows
I am hugely grateful to leading academics in York for the tremendous support, advice, critique and encouragement offered during the development of my application. From a professional perspective, receiving rigorous and supportive feedback from University colleagues was invaluable, and following the success of my application, a series of new research thrusts and collaborations have now been established within the University.
Dr Steven Quinn, Alzheimer’s Research UK Fellow, School of Physics, Engineering and Technology
How to apply
Prior to submitting an application for support, please contact us to enquire about funders, schemes, eligibility and suitability. We would also advise making initial contact with a member of our management team directly to discuss your proposed research and how it aligns with existing research in YBRI and associated departments at York.
Expressions of interest
We invite expressions of interest from potential fellowship candidates. An expression of interest should include the following:
- An up to date CV with a full publication list
- A one page outline of your research proposal
- A short statement setting out your reasons for wanting to base your research at York and how you fit within the remit of your chosen fellowship scheme
High quality fellowship applications require time to develop and to undergo vigorous internal peer review and coordination with host departments. In general, we require that any expression of interest for YBRI support needs to be recieved a minimum of 6 months before the funder deadline.
Evaluation process
Each expression of interest is evaluated on the basis of:
- Scientific merit
- Alignment of the proposed research with our research themes
- Eligibility of the candidate for the proposed funding scheme/s
