Arts in Motion, a collaborative event between the Arts Barge and the University of York’s School of Art and Creative Technologies, successfully took place on 20 May on the peaceful waters of York’s River Ouse.

The event was curated by students from the MA Management in the Creative and Cultural Industries and the MA Music, Management and Marketing, as part of the Collaborative Industry Project module.

Students and staff from the School of ACT showcased their talent and music pieces in front of an enthusiastic and diverse audience, enjoying old and new music from various origins. Genres ranged from folk to R&B, to classical and fusion pieces. Many participants expressed their delight in hearing the sound of Zheng (筝), a traditional Chinese instrument, for the first time.

All proceeds from the event will be directed to the Arts Barge, a registered local charity and York's waterborne arts centre, to support its ongoing work within the arts community. The event received sponsorship from Aesthetica, the York-based arts magazine, which contributed to the student-led initiative and facilitated community engagement.

This event demonstrates the positive outcomes of student-organised projects in fostering community connections through the arts while supporting charitable endeavours. The organisers are international postgraduate students at the School of ACT: Celine, Deli, Selene, Stacy, and Yuhao. They extend their appreciation to all performers and attendees for their participation and contributions.
