Event details

This event is part of the York Festival of Ideas

At a time when the biodiversity and climate crisis has been brought into sharp focus by the COPs in Montreal and Glasgow, we’re inviting you to Three Hagges Woodmeadow to find out where the real action is – you’ll be standing on it!

The soil beneath our feet holds much of the world’s carbon and is home to life forms and interactions as complex and fascinating as those in a rock pool, but which few of us ever see. Hear about the partnerships between fungi, flowering plants and trees, about strange animals you may not have heard of before, as well as the more familiar earthworms and the part they play in keeping our soils, and hence our planet, healthy.

So, come along and rediscover your curiosity, reimagine what Nature could be like and learn how to rebuild the health of the soil through our work at Three Hagges Woodmeadow.

The event will be led by Professor David Raffaelli who is Chair of Woodmeadow Trust, Emeritus Professor of Ecology at the University of York and an acknowledged international researcher in the field of ecosystems and their management.

Three Hagges Woodmeadow is just six miles south of York. Accessible parking and bike racks are available. It is easily accessible by bus route 415 York to Selby (Hollicarrs stop is just a five-minute walk away) and Sustrans Bike Route 65 (five-minute cycle).

All ages are welcome.

The event is free, but donations are welcome.
