Race Equality Co-ordination Group

Between 2020 and 2024, our Race Equality Coordination Group oversaw activities, to challenge and to redress systemic inequalities and disadvantages experienced by Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME*) staff and students.

Since its original purposes were fulfilled, we closed the Group as we explore more integrated and intersectional approaches to inclusion. To maintain transparency, this webpage remains as a record and showcasing our actions during the period.

The group:

  • Provided a vision and strategic direction to the University in relation to its anti-racism campus approach.
  • Championed and oversee the progress of the race equality focus areas.
  • Actively engaged, listened and communicated its progress internally and externally.
  • Reported progress on key achievements and successes against the focus areas to the University Executive Board, EDIC and key stakeholder forums.

*Note: When using the term BAME in our anti-racism work we recognise that this does not fully capture the nuance and experiences of different ethnic identities, including the individual and cultural challenges these communities face. We will ensure that as part our actions and activities we will reflect and consider this.
