As a University founded on the principles of excellence, equality and opportunity for all, gender equality is important to us.

We were early adopters of the Athena Swan Charter and continue to develop innovative best practice in this area. We are working to reduce our gender pay gap and to improve gender representation at all levels of employment in the organisation.

Our Athena Swan Institutional Award, related action plan and other initiatives together meet the requirements of a Horizon Europe Gender Equality Plan. In addition, 22 of our 24 academic schools and departments hold an Athena Swan award and have their own departmental gender equality action plans.
