I thought it might be helpful to share with you information on recent correspondence between the University of York and Universities UK.
I wrote to UUK on Monday to reiterate that it is in everyone’s interests that a way forward is found which:
(i) Reduces the very significant deficit in the scheme
(ii) Ensures that all members of USS (including future members) can access attractive pensions in their retirement, and
(iii) Meets the requirements of the Pensions Regulator.
The UUK Chief Executive responded that she agrees with these points. She indicated that she expected the UCU to come forward with its proposals shortly. These would then be given due consideration in discussion with UUK members, the USS Board of Trustees and the Pensions Regulator.
We will continue to share information with members of staff as and when it becomes available.
