Waste Valorisation Workshop Held

News | Posted on Thursday 28 April 2011

The York Environmental Sustainability Institute (YESI) has begun a series of workshops designed to promote interdisciplinary research and facilitate funding proposals in the area of environmental sustainability.

The first workshop on Waste Valorisation was organised together with Prof James Clark from the Green Chemistry Centre of Excellence and took place on April 11th in Heslington Hall. It aimed to capitalise on the growing recognition that the increasing twin problems of waste management and resource depletion can be solved together through the utilisation of waste as a resource using green and sustainable chemical technologies.

Guest speakers included the director of research and innovation for Veolia Environment, the director of the White Rose shopping centre and the head of the Sustainability of the Food Chain Exploitation Platform at the Institute of Food Research. A multidisciplinary approach was used to discuss the obstacles to waste valorisation, topical research ideas, potential projects and funding opportunities.
