This course will give you a comprehensive knowledge of health economics, which you can apply directly to the problems you face in the workplace.

Course content
In this course, you will complete three modules to the value of 20 credits each. These will be combined with the modules you completed for your PGDip Health Economics for Health Care Professionals and Policymakers to make the 180 credits you need to obtain the Masters qualification.

- Identify and apply core and advanced economic evaluation concepts to decision problems encountered in the workplace, in particular as they relate to health technology assessment.
- Advance knowledge of economic evaluation for HTA to fill a disciplinary knowledge gap thus developing greater credibility to lead and advise on related project planning, management and report writing.
- Use core and advanced mathematical and computer-based techniques, to contribute to work-based projects involving economic evaluation for Health Technology Assessment.
- Access, structure and synthesise information, further developing research skills to assess the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of health technologies.
- Demonstrate competence and confidence in identifying economic evaluation for Health Technology Assessment literature, critically appraising and summarising it for use to inform decision makers.
- Persuasively communicate in inter-disciplinary settings the results of economic evaluation for Health Technology Assessment.

The programme will include a residential workshop held at the University of York and attendees will need to meet their transport, accommodation and other related costs.
Teaching and assessment
Teaching format
Each module will be delivered through narrated slides, and you will also have access to a workbook containing references to additional reading and exercises. Some modules will also be supplemented with a textbook containing core material. Your teaching will be supported using the University's virtual learning environment, Yorkshare. You'll have access to:
- discussion boards monitored by a module tutor or module leader
- an assessed work submission facility
- a private messaging service for contacting your module leader or tutor, administrative staff and fellow students
Teaching location
As this is a distance learning course, you will be able to complete much of the work you need to do for each module in your own home or workplace. The programme will include a residential workshop held at the University of York.
Assessment and feedback
Each module contains one or two pieces of assessed work. This will be marked to provide feedback on your progress. The modules themselves are assessed by examination close to the end of the module's twelve week study period. All examinations will be online.
