IMPORTANT: Updated calculator policy for exams
Posted on Thursday 20 November 2025
The Exams Office and the University's Standing Committee on Assessment have recently agreed to revert to the previous policy on calculator provision: in all future closed assessments where they are permitted, calculators will be provided exclusively by the Exams Office.
Students will no longer be permitted to bring their own calculators to their exams.
The model of calculator the Exams Office will issue is the Casio fx-85GT Plus. This is the same model that students have been issued with previously:

The Exams Office will gradually replace this model with the Casio fx-85GTX Classwiz.
It's hoped that this policy change will minimise disruption to students in exams and save students money. You will now no longer have to have your calculator checked, and it will be the Exams Office, not students, who bears the costs of procuring or replacing calculators in closed assessments.

The Library has a limited number of Casio fx-85GT Plus calculators for students to familiarise themselves with in advance of the Semester 1 exam period. Please return these calculators to the front desk when you are finished so that other students may also benefit from this service.
