Maths Skills Centre

The Maths Skills Centre offers mathematics and statistics guidance and resources for students, complementing departmental provision.  Students can:

  • seek guidance and advice on mathematical or statistical concepts
  • explore and be guided to online resources
  • use the Centre’s textbooks, leaflets and guides
  • work individually or in groups on work

The Centre offers drop-in sessions during term time and individual appointments for more in-depth guidance. Students can book appointments through the Appointment Booking System.

We also offer statistics workshops (using SPSS and R) and numerical reasoning for employability. These workshops are available for staff and students.

Employment opportunities

We recruit Graduate Teaching Assistants at regular times during the academic year.  GTAs are involved in supporting students at drop-ins and appointments. With statistical experience, GTAs can also get involved in the delivery of workshops. We welcome applications from PhD research students working across all disciplines who have a good first degree in a subject with a large mathematical or statistical content, a good level of digital literacy and the ability to explain complex topics and ideas clearly.

We are particularly interested in PhD students with experience in statistical methods and research methodology.

Interested students can email and request an application form

The Centre is on the first floor of the Harry Fairhurst Building next to the Morrell Library.
