Cyclists - claim your free cycle safety gear

News

Posted on Thursday 5 November 2026

Come along to the traffic light junction at Field Lane, Church Lane and Lakeside Way, between Campus East and West, to collect your free safety gear on Wednesday 25 November, 4pm to 6pm.

As the evenings grow darker, being visible on the roads becomes increasingly important. The Highway Code requires cyclists to have a front light and a red rear light when cycling at night. Failure to comply can result in an on-the-spot fine. Bikes must also have a red rear reflector and amber pedal reflectors.

Claim your free gear

The Travel and Transport Team will be giving away free high-visibility vests, bike lights and slap wrap reflectors (while supplies last) on Wednesday 25 November, from 4pm to 6pm.

Come along to the traffic light junction at Field Lane, Church Lane and Lakeside Way, between Campus East and West, to collect your free safety gear.

If you cycle and don't yet have the right safety equipment, bring your bike along and come and see us. No booking needed.

Local police officers will also be volunteering their time at the event to offer cycling safety advice and help distribute free equipment. They're there to support the cycling community and help everyone stay safe on the roads.

Bike Doctor

Richard, our campus Bike Doctor, will also be available to answer questions about his bike repair sessions on campus.
