Significant development work on campus begins

Posted on 2 May 2023

A number of development works are due to start on Campus West over the next few weeks which may cause additional noise, and/or change the availability of car parking.

Student Centre site preparation

Central car park (Car park 2.4) will partially close from Wednesday 3 May 2023 as work begins on the site for the new Student Centre. Alternative car parking is available in Car Park 3.1 located behind the library, and in the Church Lane car park which is within walking distance to many buildings on Campus West.

Accessible bays near the former Security Centre will be closed but the accessible bays near the Spring Lane Building will be unaffected at this stage. Additional accessible bays will be provided further along in the car park with the route to the lift and library remaining level and clear.

Work to divert services such as heating and IT that run across the student centre site has also started, and may require short term closures of roads or footpaths.

Yorkshire House (York Science Park)

Work to create new research/office space for the ESRC (Economic and Social research council) in Yorkshire House on York Science Park is due to start on Monday 15 May 2023. The work will take place on the second floor so impact on surrounding buildings should be minimal, however parking may be reduced. Additional spaces have been made available in the Pixel car park (the spaces on the row parallel, and closest to the road, only).

Derwent P-block

Work is continuing on Derwent P-block creating new social spaces and improving the bedrooms. This will include the cleaning of the front of the building in the coming weeks, which may cause some additional noise in the immediate area.
