Enabling two-factor authentication for Office 365 and OneDrive

Posted on 24 April 2023

Over the coming weeks we will be rolling out Duo two-factor authentication to Office 365, which includes services such as OneDrive, Teams, Word, Excel, Powerpoint and OneNote.

This change ensures that even if someone has your password, they still won't be able to access your account.

When using your University account to sign in to Office 365, you may soon be asked for Duo two-factor authentication. Duo two-factor authentication works in exactly the same way within Microsoft 365 as in other services that use Duo across the University.

Office 365 remembers which devices and locations you have logged on from. Over time two-factor authentication prompts will decrease in frequency when using the same devices from the same locations. Conversely, if you do use a new device or travel you are more likely to be re-prompted for two-factor authentication.

More information on registering and using Duo can be found on our website: Duo two-factor authentication.
