Employee responsibilities
Your resposibilities
It is your responsibility to:
- Agree with your line manager the statutory (ie the University is legally required to provide) and compliance (ie the University has identified this as a training requirement) training which is appropriate for your role.
- Attend and complete the training to the level of competence required.
- Help ensure that accurate training records are kept (for example, by making sure you sign attendance registers and updating your training record where requested to do so).
Required training
New employees will be automatically assigned these courses by the Learning Management System where applicable. Cyber security and data protection training is accessed via the MetaCompliance portal.

Everyone, including temporary staff, must complete these online tutorials:

Read the guidelines on statutory and compliance training
Associate staff
For associate staff (temporary and casual workers), this training is provided separately.
An associate staff/student IT account is required.
New starters
New starters should work with their line manager to identify their appropriate statutory and compliance training needs during their induction period.
Existing staff
Existing staff should familiarise themselves with the statutory and compliance guidelines and review the programmes currently available, and agree with their line manager the programmes they need to attend.
Many programmes require regular updates to remain up to date with the material, you will be notified of these updates via the LMS or through MetaCompliance
Further guidance
- The University has identified key training requirements for staff as above. There may also be other statutory and compliance training needs specific to your department or job. You should discuss with your line manager how these can be met.
- When identifying training, it is important to consider the relevance and timeliness of the training to an individual. For example, in the area of fixed-term contracts, if you are a line manager but do not have any members of your team on a fixed term contract or are not likely to in the foreseeable future, this training would not currently be seen as appropriate. It is your responsibility to complete this at a time when it becomes relevant to you.
- Where modules have a feedback/completion form/quiz at the end of the training, you must complete this section otherwise your training completion will not be recorded and you may be asked to complete the module again.
