The accountability learning path

When roadblocks or unexpected shifts hit, it is entirely natural to slide into defensive patterns or feel like a situation is out of your control. This learning path introduces a neutral, eight-rung framework divided by a single line of choice.

It gives your team a shared, non-judgmental language to spot when you are falling into defensive behaviours (into excuses or blame) and provides the behavioural tools needed to find ways to reclaim your confidence, clear communication blocks, and take proactive ownership of your shared outcomes.

Collaborating across a university means navigating complex processes that often feel out of our hands. When pressure mounts or feedback lands, sitting back or focusing on roadblocks is a normal human response. This pathway is designed to help you hit pause and reflect on those moments—not to critique your behaviour, but to support your day-to-day work. Taking time to look at where you sit on the Accountability Ladder helps reduce the frustration of feeling stuck. It gives you a practical framework to steer conversations toward solutions, reduce team friction, and gain the confidence to move things forward even when the process stalls.

Start here: We’ve all sat in meetings where it feels safer to track a bottleneck than solve it — a natural response that ultimately leaves us frustrated and stuck. If you've ever held back in a situation like this, these quick resources will give you the practical tools to reclaim your energy and confidently shift deadlocks into action.

Watch this 60-second overview to introduce the topic, explore why this skill matters in an evolving landscape, and prime your mind for action.
