Retaining existing staff
Departments can make a case to retain an employee if they are likely to be offered a post by another employer and there is a clear business case to keep them.
Retaining academic, research or teaching staff by salary increase
Departments may put forward a case for an increased salary within the current grade of a member of academic, research or teaching staff in grades 6 to 8R.
Retaining academic, research or teaching staff by promotion
Departments may, subject to certain conditions, put forward a case for the promotion of a member of academic, research or teaching staff.
There must be good grounds for asking the Academic Promotions Committee to consider a case.
An essential requirement is that there is no deviation from the normal standards required for promotion.
Retaining professorial staff
Departments may, subject to certain conditions, put forward a case for the promotion or salary increase of a professor for the purpose of retention.
Measures could include a salary increase, promotion to a higher band or a retention payment.
Cases are considered by the Professorial Pay Review Panel, a sub-group of the University Executive Board.
