The Lifelong Learning Entitlement (LLE)
The UK Government is introducing a new student loan product called the Lifelong Learning Entitlement (LLE) in January 2027 for new students funded by Student Finance England.
It will eventually replace the previous tuition fee loan products, but there will be an unspecified number of transitional years during which we will have some students funded by the LLE and some by the old-style loans.
The University has begun a project to prepare our systems, policies and staff for the introduction of the LLE. One of the key differences in terms of how we will administer the old and new products is that the LLE requires us to charge students dynamically on the basis of credits studied rather than flat annual fees.
To help keep staff informed of developments with the Government’s LLE policies and the University’s preparations, the project team has created a Google Site with staff resources including an overview of the LLE, implementation timelines, FAQs and other useful resources. The site is reviewed and updated regularly as new information is released by the Government, Student Loans Company (SLC) and Tribal SITS.
