Year 10/11 STEM work experience

Explore the world of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM). Be inspired by fascinating research, speak with current students, get a closer look at our teaching laboratories, and find out what it’s like to study at university.

The course runs from Monday 22 June to Friday 26 June 2026 (10am to 4pm). You must be able to attend for all five days and will need to travel from home (maximum of one hour travel time) to and from the University every day (it's not a residential programme).

Explore STEM topics

This is your chance to explore fascinating STEM topics and meet experts in their fields.

  • Experience a week across campus, spending time in 8 areas; Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering, Environment and Geography, Mathematics, Physics and Psychology.
  • Meet current undergraduate students and find out what it's like to study at university
  • Attend lectures, tour our research laboratories and conduct experimental work in our teaching laboratories.

More details of the programme and locations will be shared in the resource pack which we'll send out one month prior to the start of the work experience week.

Getting here

There are buses from the city centre and railway station approximately every 5 minutes during the day, and it takes around 20 minutes to reach the campus. Find out more about getting to campus.

A small number of travel bursaries may be available. These will be awarded on a case-by-case basis and will be offered if you are awarded a place on the work experience programme.

You'll be notified whether you have a place by the end of February 2026. We regret that we are unable to confirm places in advance of this date. Places on this course are limited, therefore allocation will be based on a combination of written responses and widening participation criteria.
