Changes to the way you request short periods of leave

From 1 October 2025, all PGRs should request short periods of leave from their programme via e:Vision.
Short-term leave (or authorised absence for a Student Visa holder) enables you to take authorised time away from your studies but does not pause your enrolment. It is typically used for:
- minor or short-term ill-health
- parental leave when usual arrangements have been disrupted
- serious domestic emergency
- compassionate reasons
What are the changes?
You must now request short periods of leave through e:Vision.
PGRs who are not Student Visa holders:
- There is a NEW short-term leave task on e:Vision - this must now be used instead of departmental systems.
Student Visa holders:
- There is a revised authorised absence task on e:Vision for PGRs who are Student Visa holders - Student Visa holders now need to use the e:Vision task for ALL short periods of leave rather than 7+ days as now.
How is short-term leave different from other types of leave?
Short-term leave is different from annual leave, which is for planned periods of leave (and requested via FlexiLeave).
A Leave of Absence enables a PGR to take an authorised break from their studies - normally for at least one month - for a valid, documented reason and pauses your enrolment. Leave of Absence is typically taken for long-term ill-health and family leave (including maternity).
