Gender and the Politics of Violence in the Middle Eastern Context

This talk will focus on women's rights under Sharia law, with a particular focus on the areas ruled by the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS), as well as other Islamic states where Sharia law is being practiced (such as Iran).  The talk will also address how the rhetoric and actions of ISIS may be affecting women in the UK and beyond.

Dr Zahra Tizro is a Lecturer in Psychology at York St John University.  Her research interests include cross cultural studies, women and children's health and well being, with a particular focus on domestic violence, gender relations and sexuality.
