Mentoring is an important part of career progression in academia and fosters a more inclusive environment for new arrivals to the department.
To ensure that all staff are given the best chance to meet people, network and grow in confidence, we pair all new staff members with experienced mentors.
Through mentoring, we want to promote a culture where all staff feel empowered and supported to ask others for advice, and all members of staff feel open to supporting others' development through mentoring, championing and coaching.
The University’s Careers Service offers mentoring for current students and staff, and alumni though the York Profiles and Mentors hub. Here you can search for graduates in specific career sectors and ask them for advice and the possibility of mentoring.
Full details of our mentoring policies and practices can be found within the Physics Department staff and student wiki pages.
