This tour shows a range of equipment and facilities available in one of our modern, dedicated laboratories.

The interactive version allows you to walk through the lab and get a 360° view of the facilities.

Introduction

The Electro-Mechanic Laboratories contains four new labs with modern equipment:

Metallurgy preparation workshop

This lab is used to prepare specimens.

This lab includes some stuff.

Specimen mounting press

This specialist press is used to mount unusual shaped specimens in resin blocks for microscopy.

The mounting press is used to prepare specimens

Surface polishing

The polishing machine is used to prepare specimens for microscopy.

Specimen polishing equipment

Fume hood

The fume extraction chamber is used to protect you from volatile fumes.

The fume hood has a glass screen and a large extractor fan

Cut off saw

Use the cut off saw for specimen preparation.

For further specimen preparation

Microscope

For inspecting and analysing of metallurgical specimens.

Refrigeration investigation rig

With the refrigeration investigation rig, you can investigate the thermal properties of multiphase fluids including losses while understanding the refrigeration process.

Understand the concepts of refrigeration.

Fundamentals of water flow

Investigation of liquid flow in pipework as it encounters various fittings is essential to the fluids engineer.

Understand the concepts of water flow.

Heat conduction in solids experiment

Study of heat conduction through solids is essential to understand both heat exchangers and insulation.

Understanding heat conduction in metals.

Electronics workshop

Several workstations each equipped for electronic systems construction and testing.

The workshop is setup with a number of workstations.

Workstations

Each workstation comes equipped with a range of equipment you'll need to conduct experiments, including:
