York Wellbeing Lecture

The talk will focus on how resilience can play a role in dealing with stress. Based upon an analysis of the findings of a survey amongst University of York staff and students, that had to deal with the sudden COVID19 outbreak and altered work and personal arrangements because of that, it will explain what factors play a role in vulnerability and resilience. It will set out the evidence that cultural background, green environment and social isolation have powerful psychological effects and will illustrate how people can be resilient.

Professor Christina van der Feltz-Cornelis

Professor Christina van der Feltz – Cornelis, psychiatrist-psychotherapist and epidemiologist, joined the University of York as one of the University's Inspirational Research Leaders with a Chair of Psychiatry and Epidemiology in 2018. She moved to York from the Netherlands, where she held an endowed chair at Tilburg University as Professor of Social Psychiatry from 2010 - 2019. She is a member of the Mental Health and Addictions Research Group (MHARG) at the University of York’s Department of Health Sciences, and holds a joint appointment with the Hull York Medical School (HYMS).

Christina is a world-renowned mental health researcher who endeavours to conduct research leading to better understanding, diagnosis and treatment of common mental disorders and the interface of somatic symptoms. At the University of York, she started the Translational, Stress and Psychosomatic research theme.
