St Wilfrid's Church Scholarships

St Wilfrid’s Catholic Church offers four choral scholarships lasting 12 months to both undergraduate and postgraduate female and male students: sopranos, altos, tenors and basses to form a quartet.

They are available to any music or non-music university students. Duties include two services on Sundays (Latin Mass and Latin Vespers & Benediction) during the university terms, with additional Masses during the week on Holy Days and Holy Week and Easter. Scholars benefit enormously from the unique opportunity to sing traditional Catholic music within the liturgy for which it was written, and in a church with a superb acoustic.

The repertoire will be drawn from the classical tradition of the Catholic Church, and will include polyphonic Mass settings by such composers as Palestrina, Byrd, Victoria, etc, as well as occasional settings by Mozart, Haydn, etc. Similarly there will be motets also drawn from the Latin tradition.

The current value of the scholarship awards is £1,300 plus extra fees for weddings and special services.
