Lecturer, Senior Lecturer or Reader in Statistics

We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer, Senior Lecturer or Reader in Statistics to contribute to the continued strength of this field at York. You will bring distinctive research quality to our research group in Statistics and Probability, which encompasses research interests in high-dimensional/big data analysis, nonparametric statistics, time series, multi-scale methods, multi-level modelling and structural equation models, with applications ranging from econometrics and finance to biostatistics and chemoinformatics.  You will teach undergraduates and on the group's successful MSc in Statistics and Computational Finance, which is run jointly with the group in Mathematical Finance and Stochastic Analysis.

You will develop research objectives, projects and proposals and carry out, lead on or contribute to the production and dissemination of research.  You will also design, develop and deliver teaching across a wide range of modules and will undertake a range of administrative and managerial responsibilities.

You will lecture, lead seminars, tutorials and other forms of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.

You will generate new research approaches and lead on the production of research outputs and research outcomes in addition to publishing high impact research in quality journals.  You will also devise, direct and develop research projects generating external research funding.

You will have a PhD, or equivalent professional experience in Statistics.  You should also hold an appropriate academic professional and teaching qualification or a willingness to complete the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice.

You will have extensive specialist knowledge in your subject area, to design, develop and deliver, and to complement and enhance the department's research strategy and goals with publicly evidenced, high-quality research.   You will be able to develop research objectives, projects and proposals and have well-developed analytical skills; you will also be able to evidence your ability to disseminate your research findings at conferences and other appropriate events.

You will be able to provide learning support to students and have knowledge of a range of teaching and research techniques and methodologies.  You will have experience of taking responsibility for teaching and learning at both undergraduate and postgraduate level and of successful course planning, design and delivery.

You must have advanced and specialist IT knowledge and highly developed communication skills to allow you to engage with a wide-ranging audience using a range of media.  You will be able to supervise the work of others, for example as an MSc, PhD or postdoctoral supervisor.
