A team of students representing the Griff Fund have reached the final of the Southeatern Hedge Fund Competion to be held at Georgia State University, Atlanta
A team of York students representing the Griff Fund have been selected as one of the five finalists in the Southeastern Hedge Fund Competition. The final will take place on Thursday, April 19th, 2018, at Georgia State University's Buckhead Center in Atlanta. The first-place team will receive a scholarship prize of $10,000, the second-place team receive a scholarship prize of $5,000, and the third-place team a scholarship prize of $3,000.
Dr Keith Anderson Chairman of the Fund commented: "I saw the announcement of this hedge fund competition, passed it on to the Griff committee and to my surprise two teams of analysts submitted proposals. Theo Wilson and his team have shown an impressive ability to create a novel hedge fund idea, backtest it with data from Datastream in a very short timescale then pitch it to the competition judges. I wish them every success in Atlanta later this month, and win or lose they will have some great experience for the City jobs market."
The Griff Fund has been running since 2013 with Dr Keith Anderson as its Chairman, with support from The York Management School and the Economics Department. It invests a donation from York alumnus Paul Griffiths, who is now a senior bond fund manager at First State Investments. The student analysts pitch stock investment ideas to each other in their weekly meetings, vote on them and I buy the stocks for the best ideas. Many Griff Fund alumni have gone on to careers in the City as analysts, investment managers or financial consulting and competition to become a junior analyst each October is always fierce.
