YorCreate is a makerspace based in the Library and is open to all University students and staff.

Whether you want to create materials for your study or research, or just create something for fun, YorCreate is free and available for you to use. We welcome and encourage all makers and creative projects.

What is a makerspace?

A makerspace is a place in which people with shared interests can gather to work on creative projects while sharing ideas, equipment, and knowledge.

What does YorCreate offer?

We have equipment and materials of many kinds that you can enjoy trying out. There are Ultimaker and Flashforge 3D printers bookable for printing. We also have workstations available for creative projects and some materials and tools for making.

Labs in the Library

YorCreate is on the first floor of the Harry Fairhurst building in the Library. On this floor is also the Creativity Lab, which is funded by the Screen Industries Growth Network and is designed to be a multi-purpose space for any creative project, offering access to a range of new and emerging technologies such as 3D modelling, Virtual Reality (VR), 360 filmmaking, media editing, and much more.

How do I get involved?

Your YorCreate journey starts with an induction session, with information on Health and Safety and use of the equipment. After this you will have access to the room via your University card and will be able to book equipment to use during Library opening hours and work on your own projects in your own time. Join our Discord server to chat with the community to share your creations and see other people’s ideas!
