Changes to York Print Plus from Thursday 16 December

Posted on 15 December 2021

On Thursday 16 December at 8am we will be changing the way you connect to the York Print Plus (YPP) printers.

The current connections will be retired in favour of PaperCut Print Deploy, Mobility Print and AirPrint methods.

This change is being carried out to make the printing system more robust, flexible and secure. The change also allows users to print from off campus via the VPN, helping to support hybrid working.

Setup guides for the new methods are available on our web pages:

If you have already followed these instructions then you do not need to do anything. You will see some changes to the interface when you print, and may need to update your settings depending on your device type, see below:

Managed Windows

When you print, you will be prompted to sign into our print deploy app. If you don't see this you will need to install the PaperCut Deploy Client from the Software Center.

To add the new PrintCloud queue, follow our PrintCloud: Set up guide for Windows 10  The new queue will display as PrintCloud [University of York][Mobility]

Managed Mac

IT Services will update the printer settings on managed Mac devices. On your first print job, you may be prompted for your username (eg abc500) and password.

Managed Linux

IT Services will update the printer settings on managed Linux devices. When you send a print job, you may be prompted for your username (eg abc500) and password, via a notification pop-up.

You can also save your username and password to your keychain by following the "Authenticating" section of our PrintCloud: Set up guide for Linux.

Unmanaged devices

We now support direct printing from unmanaged Windows, Mac, iPhones and iPads, Linux, Android and Chromebooks. Please follow the appropriate set up guide:

We will be publicising the changes again in the New Year for returning staff and students.
