The York Bursary

To be eligible, you should

  • be a UK or EU resident
  • have a residual household taxable gross income of £35,000 or less (including pensions)
  • be studying full-time at the University in 2019/20 and be paying the UK/EU fee rate
  • be registered on an undergraduate degree course

The Care Leaver Bursary

The Care Leavers and Foyer Bursary is for students aged under 25, who come to York having been in the care of their UK local authority; or who have come through the national Foyer Federation (foyer.net).

The value of the award is:

  • Year 1: £3,000
  • Year 2: £2,500
  • Final year: £2,500 plus £1,000 to be paid in term three to assist with graduation and interview costs.

The York Opportunity Awards

The York Opportunity Awards have been established to provide support to talented students who have the academic potential to study at York and who have faced significant barriers to their educational goals. Applications for 2019 entry will open in March 2019.

For International students

Academic Excellence scholarships

These prestigious scholarships recognise academic excellence by offering a tuition fee discount. The scholarships are open to international students applying for full-time undergraduate taught programmes of study and are split into two categories:

  • Academic Excellence Scholarships, which offer a £5,000 tuition fee discount for the first year of study. These scholarships are open to high ability students from any non-EU country.
  • Country or region-specific Academic Excellence Scholarships, which offer a tuition fee discount of up to £10,000 for high ability students from a specific country or region. View the list of countries.

To be eligible, you must have received a conditional or unconditional offer to study at the University of York by 30 April 2019 (you do not need to have accepted the offer). Find out more on eligibility criteria and how to apply.

The Vice-Chancellor's scholarships

These scholarships are open to exceptional students applying for full-time Undergraduate programmes of study. Each scholarship offers a £5,000 tuition fee discount for each year of study, up to three years.

Other Scholarships

Equal Access Scholarships 2019/20

These are for students seeking refuge in the UK and who wish to pursue an undergraduate degree programme at the University of York. They provide

  • A full fee waiver (you will not need to pay any tuition fees)
  • A maintenance award of up to £10,660 to help with living costs

Applications should be submitted online using the application form which will be available from 14 January 2019. The deadline for submission is 30 April 2019.
