Professor awarded honorary distinction from the American Psychiatric Association

Professor Christina van der Feltz-Cornelis has been awarded the honorary distinction International Distinguished Fellow by the Board of Trustees of the American Psychiatric Association (APA).

The International Distinguished Fellowship of the APA represents the highest award that can be made by the APA and recognises sustained research that is internationally regarded. 

Inspirational

Christina joined the Department of Health Sciences and Hull York Medical School in 2018. She was appointed Chair in psychiatry and epidemiology as one of the inspirational research leaders for the 60th anniversary of the University of York. She built the York Mental Health and Addiction Research Group (MHARG) research portfolio Translational research into the interface of physical and mental health. Her clinical epidemiological research has been published in some of the world’s highest impact journals, including the Journal of the American Medical Association [JAMA] and the British Medical Journal [BMJ].

On receiving the award, she said: “I feel immensely honoured to have received this international honorary distinction of the APA. This is a great recognition and I feel indebted to the University of York and HYMS for the opportunity to contribute with my research to their mental health strategy.”

Congratulating Christina on her honorary distinction, Dr. Saul Levin, Medical Director of the APA said: “Professor van der Feltz-Cornelis joins an elite group of psychiatrists with this honorary distinction who continue to make significant contributions to the field of psychiatry. Our best wishes go to her for a long and eminent career as an International Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.”
