If you make York your Firm choice by 1st May 2020, and are starting a BEng (not foundation year) or MEng course in 2020/2021 you may be eligible for a departmental scholarships worth £1000 in your first year.
All eligible new students will be considered automatically - there is no separate application form to complete. £500 is paid during Autumn Term of your first year and the other £500 is paid at the end of Summer Term, providing that you successfully progress to Year 2.
We are currently offering the following awards and scholarships:
Academic Excellence Scholarships are designed to recognise and reward academic achievement. These scholarships are available to UK or EU applicants, who make York their Firm choice by 1 May 2020 and start their course in September 2020. Awards are made on the basis of outstanding academic achievement in relation to other applicants who qualify (5 available).
The Widening Participations Scholarships are available to UK applicants, who make York Firm choice by 1 May 2020, and start their course in September 2020. Eligible applicants are those who are identified by the university as falling within the 'widening participation' remit, eg care leavers, low participation neighbourhoods.
Awards are made on the basis of academic performance in A-levels or equivalent in relation to other applicants who qualify; other performance indicators may also contribute to the decision. (3 available)
Our Engaging in Engineering Excellence awards are designed to recognise and reward those who are passionate about achieving excellence in engineering. They are available to UK applicants, who make York Firm choice by 1 May 2020, and start their course in September 2020.
Our assessors will consider your UCAS application holistically, including your personal statement and your performance at interview. We will be looking for evidence of your engagement with engineering, which you might be able to show us, for example, through previous engineering work experience, an engineering project that you undertook in your own time, or by being involved with engineering/STEM outreach activities etc. (3 available)
International Scholarships are available to International students, who make York their Firm choice by 1 May 2020, and start their course in September 2020. These scholarships recognise the academic excellence of your application by considering your academic performance in A-levels or equivalent. Other performance indicators may also contribute to the decision of our assessors. To be eligible, you must be paying fees at the overseas rate for the duration of your degree course. (3 available)

The Foundation Year Bursary is a means-tested fee waiver for UK and EU students on the first year of a Foundation Year degree (Year 0). Those who have a residual household of £25,000 or less are eligible for a £5,600 fee waiver, while those with £25,001 or more will be eligible for a £3,000 fee waiver.
Your eligibility will be assessed on the basis of your residual household income using the information supplied in your application for Student Loans. If you or your parents withhold your consent to share financial information on your Student Loans application, we will not be able to confirm your eligibility for the bursary.
The Department offers a number of scholarships (typically £400 or £500 each) for the best performing Foundation Year students, after the first term of the course. These are open to both UK/EU and International students. We also have more information specifically on financing the Foundation Year.
