Bridging Global Health Economics

Through a new grant from the British Council, we aim to empower Indonesian graduates through the development of a joint MSc in Health Economics between York and Gadjah Mada University.

This project will cover five key activities:

  • Joint Curriculum Development Workshops
  • Student Exchange Programs
  • Collaborative Research Projects
  • Online Seminar Series on Global Health Economics
  • Alumni Network and Mentorship Program

These activities aim to bridge the gap in global health economics education, empower Indonesian graduates, and create sustainable transnational education opportunities.

Joint Curriculum Development Workshops

Aiming to align the curriculum, with a focus on Indonesian health systems and to develop a 1+1 MSc degree, there will be a number of online and in-person workshops. This will help to promote collaboration between faculties, government officials and internal health organisations.

Workshop structure

  1. Online Workshop 1: Introduction and Needs Assessment
  2. Online Workshop 2: Developing Core Content
  3. In-Person Workshop 1: Refining Curriculum
  4. In-Person Workshop 2: Finalisation and Implementation

Student Exchange Programs

To promote cross cultural exposure and a hands-on experience in health economics, MSc students from both universities will complete short term exchanges. York students will visit UGM to complete placements, and Gadjah Mada students will attend the Economics Pre-Sessional Course at York.

Collaborative Research Projects

Through collaborative research projects, both universities will foster research collaboration in health economics. This will be completed through funding small-scale research projects to generate health economics research with a global relevance

Online Seminar Series on Health Economics

Focusing on broadening access to global health economics knowledge, this project will develop and deliver online seminars on topics including: economic evaluation, health financing, policy and more. These seminars will be delivered by experts from both universities as well as internal organisation such as the WHO.

Alumni Network and Mentorship Program

The project will establish an alumni network for MSC Health Economics to support graduates' career development and maintain university connections. As part of this, alums will be able to attend annual virtual networking events as well as access mentorship.
