The University provides services and resources to make your time of study as straightforward and stress-free as possible. Services referred to within this section are separate to your department and are managed centrally at the University.
The University Library offers a range of services for distance learners including an extensive online library, postal loan and interlending services, and (for UK-based distance learners) access to other UK university libraries. Online resource guides are available for each subject, and Academic Liaison Librarians can provide additional advice by phone and email.
The University's Writing Centre provides support for academic writing, offering guidance on planning and structuring your assignments, developing your argument, integrating sources into your writing and expressing yourself clearly and accurately. Distance learners can access individual support by email.
Maths Skills Centre
The Maths Skills Centre provides support for mathematics and statistics. Online resources are available via the Yorkshare VLE and distance learners can access individual support by email.
Online training in referencing, critical thinking, reading, academic writing, academic integrity and the Turnitin text-matching tool for improving essay writing are available via the Yorkshare VLE.
IT Services provides online and printable IT training materials, and guidance on logging onto the computer network remotely, using Google Apps for Education (including Google Mail and Google Drive), and obtaining software for home use.
Centre for English Language Teaching (CELT)
The Centre for English Language Teaching provides English Language and study skills support for all students during their programme of studies. Distance learners are able to receive writing advice online.
