Join us at the York Guildhall on Tue Feb 25 and Wed Feb 26, 2025, for the fourth Edition of the annual Conference of Student-Managed Investment Funds, Hosted by the University of York and Griff Investment Fund. This in-person conference provides a unique opportunity for students to learn, network, and gain insights into the world of investment management.

At SMIF|UK25, attendees will have the opportunity to hear from esteemed industry experts, engage in thought-provoking panel discussions, and participate in informative workshops. The conference aims to broaden participants’ understanding of investment opportunities and trading education within the financial markets, complemented by various competitions to encourage active involvement.

Topics will be presented by professionals from diverse industry backgrounds, offering a wide array of perspectives on this dynamic and multi-faceted sector. Contributions will also include insights from alumni, members of the SMIF committee, and their supervising staff.

Tickets are available for students and industry members, with discounted rates for earlier purchases. Connect with like-minded individuals, share ideas, and build valuable connections that can help shape your future in finance.

Competitions

Competition 1: Stock pitch

Participants are invited to pitch an equity as part of the SMIF|UK25 Stock Pitch competition. The criteria for the pitch are as follows:

  • Equity Selection: Pitch one equity for purchase
  • Market Capitalisation: Up to $10bn
  • Position Type: Long or short
  • Eligibility: Stocks listed on any stock exchange
  • Team Size: Up to 4 students per team
  • Submission Format: A PowerPoint presentation (maximum 10 slides) plus a data appendix (not to be presented)
  • Pitch Outline: A clear pitch structure should be provided, outlining key expectations and the focus of the presentation
  • Entries: Each SMIF can submit up to two entries, with the top one from each SMIF to be presented at the conference on the 25th of February. To be submitted before 6:00 pm on the 19th of February. 

This competition offers a unique opportunity to showcase your analytical and presentation skills to industry experts and peers.

There will be a cash prize of £350 for first place and £150 for second place.

Competition 2: Investment View on Healthcare Over the Next Five Years

In this competition, each SMIF is invited to submit one poster outlining their investment view on the healthcare market for the next five years, including potential stock plays.

Please bring these printed on the day. 

This will be rewarded with a cash prize of £250 for first place and £150 for second place.
